CHICAGO-The unilateral declaration of the independence of Kosovo and Metohija is illegal, unjust and a gross violation of international law. The declaration is in direct violation of the United Nations Charter, the OSCE Helsinki Final act of 1975 and UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The recognition of Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence by the United States, France and Britain will have dire consequences for international law and global security.

The Serbian Bar Association of American calls on the UN and the international community to fulfill its obligation to apply the rule of international law and respect international agreements by reversing this illegal act. Serbia is a democratic and sovereign state and its internationally recognized borders must be respected.
